Leica Geosystems GIS & Mapping, LLC has recently announced the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has chosen Leica Photogrammetry Suite (LPS) as a key resource to support and streamline the National Resources Inventory. The National Resources Inventory (NRI) is a continuous survey that serves as the Federal government’s principal source of information on the status, condition and trends of soil, water and related resources on private lands in the United States. Data are collected using aerial photography and supplemented by onsite field investigation.

The NRCS has recently completed a reorganization, through which it centralized image processing to three Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSLs): Greensboro, North Carolina; Fort Worth, Texas; and Portland, Oregon. “The NRI data is essential in legislative and land planning decision making, so the NRCS must have a photogrammetric solution that produces accurate results quickly.
