Leading UAE govt organisations enhance GIS skills

Abu Dhabi: Several government organisations in the UAE hosted a presentation on GIS for their executive team from June 10-13, 2013. The presentation, conducted by Greg Duffy, an accomplished consultant, advisor and author on enterprise utilisation of GIS, BI, CRM and other IT disciplines, was aimed to give insights on the role of GIS and information technology in providing smooth and efficient services in today”s broad and complex business environment.

Four organisations—the Department of Transport (DoT Abu Dhabi), Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA), Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (ADCO), and Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre (ADSIC) each hosted Duffy for one day, consecutively from June 10-13.

It is important for these organisations that their management team and stakeholders understand the significance of location and its primary tool—GIS, in improving workflows, planning, and efficiency. In a study by Oxera published earlier this year, they contend that geo-services including geographic mapping and location based services allow consumers and organisations around the world to save billions of dollars annually.
