Dhaka, Bangladesh: A land commission will be formed for plain-land indigenous people, according to Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Minister of Food and Disaster Management, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. He was speaking at the closing session of a seminar on land rights and development of the indigenous minorities.
The minister observed that land problems were at the heart of all other problems as far as the indigenous minorities were concerned. The land commission assigned to handle land issues in the three hill districts may be tasked with surveying the land or an independent commission may be formed, he said.
Further, he added that the government is going ahead with an aim to resolve the tribal people’s land dispute in accordance with the Awami League’s election pledge. He also said that he himself has talked with the prime minister and sent a letter to her office regarding resolution of land problem of the indigenous minorities living in the plain land.
