India: To ensure the safety of tourists and crew, Kerala Tourism has decided to introduce a GPS-based fleet safety management system for houseboats. The houseboats will be tracked on a Geographic Information System (GIS) map and will be geofenced to prevent route violations. The GPS module on the houseboat will capture the geographical coordinate data and send the spatial information in real time to the control room. Not just that, a tilt sensor will also alert the control room when the houseboat tilts beyond a particular angle. An SOS/panic button would also be made available for timely emergency response. The Rs 1.60 crore vehicle-tracking and fleet-management solution, called Keltron-iTAC, is being provided by Keltron, which is a state government undertaking.
