Karnataka Govt plans water quality maps

Bangalore: In a bid to assess the availability of drinking water in the State, the Karnataka Government, India will chart water quality maps based on the Geographical Information Systems, becoming the first State to do so.

The Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, India has completed the water quality mapping process for 23 districts and for the remaining four districts the process is expected to be completed by May-end. Drinking water in about 20,929 inhabitations in the State is affected by chemical and bacterial contamination.
