Joakim Ollen – new President of EuroGeographics

During the 2nd General Assembly of EuroGeographics in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, 30th September – 2nd October 2002, Joakim Ollen, Director General of Lantmateriet – the National Land Survey of Sweden), has been appointed as the new President of EuroGeographics.

Joakim Ollen, born in 1952, is a lawyer and has been Director General of Lantmäteriet since August 1997. Lantmateriet, responsible for national mapping, land administration and cadastre, has a staff of approximately 2100 people, about 100 offices and an annual turnover of 156 M€.

Mr. Ollen has a strong background in public services. From 1975 to 1983 he has been a member of the Swedish Parliament. Between 1983 and 1994 he has been Municipal Commissioner for the city of Malmo, even Lord Mayor from 1986 to 1988 and 1991 to 1994. After being chairman of the board of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and of Sydkraft, he is at the moment chairman of the board of the Swedesurvey AB and vice chairman of the board of the University of Gävle.
