Carlo Gavazzi Space SpA, Italy, is negotiating with Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) to launch the Italian company’s 500 kg Agile satellite in the equatorial orbit. According to sources, managing director of the company, Lanfranco Zucconi, was one of the special guests of ISRO to witness the successful mission of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C5) that placed the 1,360 kg Resouresat-1 — a remote sensing satellite — in the polar sun synchronous orbit (SSO) last month.
Mr Zucconi is believed to have indicated to ISRO that they have a $9-million budget. His company has launched 10 satellites and is keeping a watch on ISRO’s achievements and plans. It is zeroing in on the carrier for the 500 kg Agile. For ISRO, Agile will be the first real heavy third-party payload.
