Indian satellites are to photograph the areas devastated by Sunday’s tidal waves to enable better coordination of relief and rescue efforts.
An official of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) said three Indian remote sensing satellites (IRS) – IC, ID or Resourcesat – will be taking the pictures Monday after 10.30 p.m.
“One of the satellites will be positioned over the sub-continent around 10.30 a.m. Monday when high and low resolution pictures will be taken,” the official said.
The National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) at Hyderabad will process the pictures and collect the data on the devastated areas.
The data will be given to the state governments for coordinating the rescue and relief operations.
