ISRO, NASA team up for hyperspectral study

India: The Space Application Centre of Indian Space Research Organization is joining forces with NASA to carry out a hyperspectral study in the Chilika lagoon. The study aims to study the biological and geographic parameters of the lagoon and its basin eco-system. For this purpose, an aircraft equipped with Airborne Visual Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) will be flown to India from the US. However, the study will not only study the bio optical parameters using aerial hyperspectral data, it will also generate data necessary to understand coastal systems, anthropogenic influences and climate change. This will be the first time that such an experiment would be carried out outside the US and Canada where hyperspectral study has been conducted to map natural resources.
