US: The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of two potential foreign military sales (FMS) of the M1151A1 high mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWVs), and aerostats and rapid aerostat initial deployment (RAID) tower systems to Iraq. Under the first estimated USD 101million sale, Iraq has requested a total of 200 M1151A1, up-armoured HMMWVs, along with M2.50 cal. machine gun mounts, commercial radios, communication equipment, repair and spare parts, personnel training and training equipment, and other related elements of logistics support.

The second USD 90million sale covers the supply of seven 17m aerostats, 14 RAID systems, spare and repair parts, support equipment, publications and technical data, personnel training and training equipment, and other associated elements of programme and logistics support. The M1151A1 HMMWV sale is expected to improve Iraq's ability to safeguard its oil infrastructure against terrorist attacks. The second FMS package is expected to improve Iraq's ability to protect national level command and control (C2) sites, military installations and other critical infrastructure. Approved by the US State Department, both sales directly contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the US, by helping to enhance the security of a strategic partner. US companies AM General and Raytheon will serve as prime contractors for the first and second sales, respectively. The M1151A1 is an expanded capacity armament carrier IAP/armour-ready HMMWV, which is designed for operation in all types of cross-country terrain and in all weather conditions, without sacrificing mobility, dependability and performance.
