Brazil: Rio Negócios, the official agency for promoting investment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has launched an online, digital map as part of its campaign to promote tech-driven economic development in the region.
The map is a joint initiative of Rio Negócios in partnership with Imagem — the official distributor of Esri in Brazil, one of the most recognised intelligent mapping software companies in the world. The project is intended to help attract new investments, give visibility to local companies and strengthen the emerging and transformative tech community.
“For the first time the digital technology ecosystem in the city will be localised in a comprehensive fashion mapping investors, companies, incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces and events,” according to Rio Negócios.
“The digital map is a fundamental instrument for the development of this sector in Rio. Through it we will have a vision of the entire ecosystem and will be able to facilitate the fortification of this community. In the last couple of years the city has received a large part of the startup deals in the country and has the potential to be the major technology hub in Latin America”, said Marcelo Haddad, executive director of Rio Negócios.
The digital map will be a dynamic platform that will be constantly updated allowing new companies and digital startups to include themselves on the “business map” by filling out a form on the site.
Besides consolidating and customising information relevant to the city for clients, Rio Negócios is also responsible for giving support to national and international investors and following all the steps of how to start business in Rio. Since the beginning of its operations in May 2010, the agency has attracted more than USD 3 billion in investment to the city.
