July 15, 2002 – Intermap Technologies has announced an agreement with The Environment Agency of England and Wales to use its NEXTMap Britain data set of highly accurate digital maps covering England and Wales. The digital maps will be delivered as Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), sourced from Intermap’s precedent-setting NEXTMap Britain Program. The Environment Agency intends to use the DTM to support the Agency’s Flood Mapping Program, a key component of recently announced advances on flood defence.
The NEXTMap Britain Program is the first time that terrain elevation mapping of an entire nation has been undertaken at such high accuracy and resolution with funding and execution solely by the private sector
NEXTMap Britain provides customers with highly accurate Digital Elevation Models, known as DEMs, including Digital Surface Models (DSMs) and Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) for the whole country. The ground surface will be modeled in detail, as an elevation point will be provided every five meters. The whole country will be covered using technology that provides a one-meter vertical accuracy. In selected areas, a second set of mapping data will be provided to a vertical accuracy of 50 centimeters. In addition, a digital orthorectified radar image data set will also be delivered to the Agency.
NEXTMap Britain data is sold under license through Intermap’s data store, GLOBAL Terrain (https://www.GLOBALTerrain.com) and through Getmapping plc, (https://www.Getmapping.com), GLOBAL Terrain’s authorized Master Distributor in the United Kingdom.
