US: A new interactive map of North Dakota oil spills was recently released to Dakota Resource Council and is available to the public online. The continuously updated map offers valuable information to landowners, area residents, and public officials, according to Dakota Resource Council. GageCartographics, a GIS firm from Montana is producing the map. It shows various oil spills, brine spills (saltwater), diesel spills, oil mud, and sludge discharges. The map pinpoints the location of spills and provides information on the magnitude of each spill. GageCartographics is using oil spill data from the North Dakota Department of Health.
The map will allow North Dakotans to better understand where spills are occurring in the region.
