India’s mobile governance to provide LBS services

India: India’s Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) has officially launched the national mobile governance initiative called ‘Mobile Seva’, aiming to expand availability of government services to citizens via mobile phones and tablets. Through this initiative, the Indian Government has developed core infrastructure which it is looking to integrate with the existing e-governance infrastructure including State Data Centres, State Wide Area Networks, and State and National Service Delivery Gateways (SSDG and NSDG). The integrated platform allows agencies to deliver location based services (to help departments customise their services based on the location of the citizen).

It will also provide other services like unstructured supplementary services data, a session based service which can be useful for status tracking of services and cell broadcasting based services that allows notifications/alerts to be sent to citizens in a particular area and can be helpful for disaster management.
