Indian union territory to modernise land records

Puducherry, India: Puducherry, a Union Territory of India, initiated steps to implement the Government of India’s (GOI) sponsored National Land Records Modernisation Programme (NLRMP) with the financial and technical support from the Department of Land Records attached to the Rural Development Ministry.

A gazette notification said the NLRMP has been formulated by integrating the schemes for ‘Computerisation of Land Records` and `strengthening of Revenue Administration and updating of land records`. The notification said land records would be computerised under this programme.

NLRMP also seeks to computerise registrations and its integration with the land records maintenance system, development of GIS and capacity building. The Department of Revenue and Disaster Management has been designated as the nodal department to implement the NLRMP in the Union Territory.

The Puducherry administration intends to complete the implementation of NLRMP in the Union Territory before 2016-2017 which is the closing year of the 12th plan (2012-2017).
