Indian state to set up new firm for mineral exploration

India: The Government of Odisha, India, has decided to float a new company called Odisha Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (OMECL) to step up survey and research on virgin mining fields in the state. OMECL will be a subsidiary company of state-controlled miner Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC). The state wants to upgrade the mineral exploration level to G2 level, and eventually to G1 level, so that the potential of mining sector is achieved through scientific exploitation of mineral resources. Besides core drilling, other associated activities like remote sensing study, geological mapping, geo-physical investigation, core logging, sampling, analysis, data interpretation, 3D modelling, preparation of plans and sections, reserve resource estimation are required to be completed to make the new mines auctionable.
