Indian state to develop GIS system for utility mapping

India: Tamilnadu, a south Indian state, is planning to develop a GIS system for preparing property and utility maps. The pilot phase of the project will start from Ponneri Town Panchayat, in Thiruvallur.

The pilot project will be aimed at conducting property and utility survey to collect details related to properties and utilities in the town. All the information will be processed with the help of software to develop detailed maps of properties and utilities. The maps will help in finding un-authorised buildings and violations of building plans.
