Indian state prepares GIS-based disaster management plans

India: The Disaster Management Institute (DMI) is planning to prepare a detailed GIS-based disaster management system, the first of its kind in Madhya Pradesh, as revealed by an official. According to Rakesh Dubey, Director, DMI, the Bhopal-based institute has been asked to prepare plans for five districts in Madhya Pradesh. These five districts include Jabalpur, Dhar, Satna, Ujjain and Hoshangabad.

“The plans will complement the work and preparedness of the State Disaster and Emergency Response Force (SDERF). The SDERF comprises of home guard personnel who are being trained in disaster management and rescue operations for the last two years,' added Dubey.
