Indian state forest dept to set up fire alert system

India: Himachal Pradesh Forest department is planning to set up fire alert system with the help of National Remote Sensing Centre in Hyderabad to check forest fires during the summers.

V K Dhadwal, Director, National Remote Sensing Centre held discussions with Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Himachal R K Gupta and senior officers of forest department regarding use of remote sensing and GIS technology in forest management in the state jointly.

Gupta said the state forest department was willing to use the expertise of National Remote Sensing Centre in the field of fire alert system working plans, invasive alien species, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation.
