India: Dhakambe, located around 15 km from Nashik city, has become the first village in the Indian state of Maharashtra under the e-gaothan pilot project, taken up by the district superintendent of land records (DS, LR), to have error-free land records using GPS and Electronic Total Station (ETS). The system became operational in the first week of January with the owners being provided with property cards, giving details of the property bought by them, among other things. “The process was carried out using the latest technology, the GPS and the ETS, instead of the earlier system which used Theodolite machines that had margin of errors,” said A S Kulkarni, (DS, LR).
