India gets new science and technology minister

New Delhi, India: Announcing reshuffle in Indian cabinet, India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh assigned Ministry for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences to Vilasrao Deshmukh. It is the first time; Singh has considered the ministry at Cabinet rank.¬†
Deshmukh is a member of Rajya Sabha representing Maharashtra State. He was also a two-time Chief Minister of Maharashtra, from 1999 to 2003 and from 2004 to 2008.
As part of the reshuffle, the Prime Minister elevated former Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh to Cabinet rank and assigned him Rural Development Ministry. He has been replaced by Jayanthi Natarajan.
IT and Communications Minister Kapil Sibal who also handles Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry got a new state minister in the latest reshuffle and the new face is Milind Deora, who will be the minister of state for communications and IT.
