IKONOS Imagery of for security, facility and traffic management

In anticipation of the NFL’s Super Bowl XXXVI, Space Imaging is releasing an IKONOS satellite image of the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. Kickoff for Super Bowl XXXVI is scheduled for Feb. 3, 2002, 6 p.m. ET on FOX between the New England Patriots and the St. Louis Rams. This image provides content and a context that may be useful in reporting on the game including security, facility and traffic management.

This satellite image of the Louisiana Superdome, located in New Orleans, Louisiana was collected on Dec. 19, 2000 by Space Imaging’s IKONOS satellite. The one-meter resolution image shows the Superdome located in the center of New Orleans near the Riverfront Park and the Morial Convention Center. The Superdome’s roof covers an area of 9.7 acres. IKONOS travels 423 miles above the Earth’s surface at a speed of 17,500 miles per hour. It is the world’s first high-resolution commercial Earth imaging satellite.
