har*GIS Field Information Systems announces the release of a new software application for transmission line inspection and maintenance. The application operates in conjunction with the company’s TruckMap Field Information System, an industry-leading field automation platform.
Called TransCo Inspector, the new application is ready-to-use and eliminates the need for field personnel to be trained on corporate enterprise systems in order to leverage the data maintained by these systems. The application includes preconfigured forms, symbology and reports through which field users can extract data from these systems by selecting the desired information from pick lists and drop-down menus.
The software’s user interface was designed specifically to replicate the line inspection and maintenance operations with which field personnel are familiar. In effect, it eliminates the need to continually print and update paper map books and associated customer and facility records because field users now have direct on-line access to these records.
Information from a variety of enterprise information systems is uploaded and downloaded as needed directly onto low-cost, ruggedized hand-held and tablet platforms and displayed on a base map. The software enables transmission line personnel to quickly set destination points, calculate routes, guide workers to each destination, download the information needed to perform inspection or maintenance activities and immediately upload any changes that need to be reflected in corporate relational databases.
Field asset data collection is facilitated through standard interfaces to technologies such as GPS, bar code, laser measurement and RFID. GPS digitizing tools are also built in, enabling easy collection of geospatial point, line and area features for integration into enterprise GIS systems.
