GPS to counter smuggling in Bolivia

Bolivia: In a major drive against smuggling, the National Customs of Bolivia (ANB) has launched satellite monitoring of trucks entering the Andean country. This was announced by Luis Arce, Minister of Economy and Public Finance, Government of Bolivia.

The implementation of this scheme, Arce said, would require building necessary infrastructure technology and would cost approximately 80 million dollars.

According to officials, the nation is losing at least 300 million dollars due to the illegal trafficking of goods and tax evasion.

These resources will be used in addition to the installation of scanners, X-rays and the purchase of helicopters and other equipments, which will contribute in curbing smuggling along the border.
