US: 3D Robotics, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology company, has developed a fully-autonomous UAV for the consumer market. The UAV is named Iris. It supports simple GPS controls through any computer, tablet, or smartphone.

Iris is 55 cm long and stands 10 cm high. The motors and electronics are powered by an 11.1V 3.5Ah LiPo battery, which brings the total weight to 1,282 grams when connected. On a full charge, the battery provides enough energy for around 9-14 minutes of flight time. Iris can be controlled on any device running Windows, OS X, Linux, or Android at the moment. While using a monile app, users can simply draw a route on the screen to make the UAV follow a flight path using GPS coordinates.
