US: According to a new research report from the analyst firm Berg Insight, the global market for mobile location platforms will show steady growth in the next few years. Total location platform revenues are expected to grow at a CAGR of nearly 11.5 percent between 2013 and 2020, reaching € 470 million at the end of the forecast period. Much of the growth is expected to come from the emerging commercial indoor location segment, while the market for location platforms deployed by mobile operators is maturing.

As per the inshigts on the future of indoor location services, the market started to exapnd with the E911 mandaates in the US, and has gradually seen interest in Europe, Japan and South Korea. But the lear governement mandates else where, hindered the mass adoption of mobile LBS globally. The report attributes the interest among the global telecom service providers, which further fulled the adition of mobile LBS, howerver the mass adoption started up recently with the increasing operator interest in advertising and analytics services will also contribute to future growth, especially for passive location platforms and data visualisation tools.

Berg Insight forecasts total global annual revenues for GMLC/MPC, SMLC/PDE, SUPL A-GNSS and passive location platforms will grow from € 200 million in 2013 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.0 percent to € 300 million in 2020. These revenues comprise licenses for new deployments, as well as capacity and technology upgrades, maintenance and support services for existing platforms.
