Google Maps adds new feature for normalising traffic in Jakarta

Indonesia: Google has launched a new feature in Jakarta to normalise the bizarre traffic conditions. This new feature detects the on-road congestion which it tracks through Google Maps. For example, if you are travelling on a route and that is congested, then the new feature will send a notification on the user’s phone and will provide you information of an alternative route with an explanation that why the route is being recommended.

In the screenshots provided by Google, it shows notifications indicating that there have been car accidents along the user’s route, as well as information on how much time the accident will add to their trip and suggesting alternative routes.

This is not the first feature for Google Maps that is of particular importance to Jakarta drivers. Last year, the app also added a feature that gives directions based on landmark information (very helpful when describing routes to taxi drivers).
