GIS to boost the silk trade in the Manipur

India: During his recent interaction with media, Sericulture, Commerce & Industries minister Govindas Konthoujam has expressed concerns over the inability of the state of Manipur supply any kind of silk outside the State despite being able to produce all four types of silks.

Speaking at the Post Cocoon Technology and Cocoon Crafts training program organised by the Eramdam Cocoon production Centre, he informed media that the Ministry is planning to set-up a Geographic Information System (GIS) in the State this year in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre. The launched of GIS will help in understanding what is happening in the fields (geographical space) and help in visualizing, analysing and interpreting the actions in the field.

With remote sensing and data capturing techniques the programme will further aid in increasing silk production and help in supplying silk to outside the State, the Minister said.
