GIS to aid rehabilitation in Delhi

New Delhi, India, 07 June 2007: The Delhi government is planning to carry out a survey and prepare a project report based on GIS database which will help in the rehabilitation process for slums.

The surveyed data will be incorporated into a geodatabase and then settlements located along riverbanks, drains, railway tracks and low-lying areas will be classified. Within that the slums will be marked by their precise boundaries on maps. After complete analysis the GIS database along with satellite imageries will be utilized for rehabilitation processes.

The study has been carried out for the last 13 years on slums and the Delhi Government has now again asked for a comprehensive study to create a database on the locations and socio-economic profile of slums to prepare an action plan for their rehabilitation.
