India: The Indian city of Pune has proposed using GIS to track illegal constructions in the city. "The data on illegal constructions should be collected using the GIS. The details about roads, areas, plot numbers, municipal zones should be part of the data bank. An identification number should be allotted to properties. High resolution satellite image technology can be used to monitor the properties," stated the proposal. GIS mapping will not only help highlight encroachment on open plots, the administration can also keep track of the current status of amenity spaces.
