The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in India has stepped up efforts to go in for large scale e-governance with a total investment of Rs 100 crore during next fiscal year. Under the plan, GIS and GPS will soon be a part of e-governance. The BMC is working in close co-ordination with central government authorities, like NIC and Survey of India, for creating a database with the help of a digitising map of Mumbai. GIS will aid in planning and development of the island city. This apart, BMC will implement the GPS-based vehicle tracking system for all BMC utility vehicles, like fire brigade engines and solid waste management vehicles.
