Hyderabad, Pakistan, November 07, 2007: The Project Director of National Programme for Improvement of Water Courses (NPIWC) Sindh Muhammad Yunus Daga has said that out of 33,000 targeted watercourses, 11,000 watercourses have been brick-lined to date under a five-year project of NPIWC launched in 2004. He said that programme-monitoring unit was using GIS and satellite technology in implementation on NPIWC.
He said that due to water saving, cultivation and production would increase by 25 percent in addition to creating job opportunities and boosting agro business. He claimed that this project would bring agricultural revolution with rapid economic development in the country.
He informed that provincial management of NPIWC has recommended Federal Government for three years extension in completion period of this project as it was difficult to complete lining of remaining 22000 water courses by the end of 2008. Mr. Dhaga said that the request for the extension in project was not due to slow pace of development work but the target of 33,000 watercourses was too high as compared to time limit
