Increasing application of GIS technology has enabled the Union and State Governments to improve efficiency of physical processes and quality of services leading to a better standard of living, Jawaharlal Nehru Technical University former Vice-Chancellor, Prof Afzal Mohammed, said.
Delivering the keynote address at the National Institute for Rural Development-CIRDAP collaborative programme organised here, he said the ‘Vision 2020’ document prepared by the Andhra Pradesh Government was a magna carta for economic growth through very effective application of the GIS and other technologies. “It focuses on 19 primary growth sectors to achieve nine to ten per cent growth annually for the next 20 years,” he opined.
The State was also the first in the country to have prepared a comprehensive, long-term growth strategy using intensive application of information and communication technology, he noted.
