Tiruchchirappalli, India: Bharathidasan University, Tamil Nadu, India, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with GIS Development Pvt. Ltd. for enabling the India’s State governments to take decisions on implementation of its schemes based on data generated by geospatial technology.
Dr. K. Meena, Vice-Chancellor of the university exchanged the MoU document with Niraj, Director (Publication), GIS Development. Dr. Meena said that the understanding was the first of its kind with the entity by a university in India. The pilot project, Dr. Meena said, would pave way for obtaining support from the Indian government to create an exclusive GIS infrastructure at Bharathidasan University.
According to Niraj, the initiative aims to study the status of geospatial implementation in five states of the country and then to provide appropriate recommendation to the respective State Governments.
