‘GIS-based network planning must for telecom’

Nepal: GIS-based network planning is a must to ensure good quality service, observed Baburam Dawadi, Deputy Director, Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA). He added that some telecom service providers have failed to carry out GIS planning and hence consumers are getting poor service in Nepal.
According to the Authority, placement of Base Transceiver Station (BTS) should be based on the GIS planning. Mostly, Nepal Telecom has been blamed for placing BTS in improper places renting the houses of near and dear ones of management officials. “It is not baseless accusation,” an employee of Nepal Telecom said, adding that the company should show readiness to investigate whether BTSs have been placed at improper location for better service.
