GIS-based map for northeast Mexico rail line

Mexico: Kansas City Southern de Mexico (KCSM) railroad, a company dedicated to freight transportation using rail in the North Eastern part of Mexico, signed an agreement with the University of Nuevo León (UANL) to develop a GIS-based map of rail network. KCSM will also use GPS technology for this mapping.

The new system will provide a better allocation of geographic data and help the concerning organisation in decision making for urban and regional development.

Representatives of KCSM and UANL agreed to recognise the value of combining the expertise and technology capabilities of academic and industrial sectors, which are key to Mexico’s transport and logistics platform development.

The new system resulting from this collaboration will provide better data and allow more informed decisions with regard to the policies of urban and regional development to improve the quality of life for the people of Mexico.
