GIS aiding El Salvador in rural electrification

El Salvador: The National Energy Council (CNE), El Salvador, in collaboration with University of El Salvador (UES) developed a plan to identify how to extend the coverage of electricity in the country and promote renewable energy.

“This plan is intended to complete the rural electrification with the help of GIS, “said Héctor Dada, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the CNE. With 88.4 percent coverage, El Salvador is at the second position in terms of electricity coverage in Central American (behind Costa Rica). Given the high cost involved the installation of electrical service, in the most remote communities, solar energy projects will be rolled out based-on the study of CNE.
