UAE: A delegation of students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Geography and Urban Planning Department, United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), recently visited Bayanat Mapping & Surveying Services LLC, a geospatial product and service provider. The delegation was led by Dr. Naeema Al Hosani, Assistant Professor of Cartography at the UAEU.
Khaled Al Melhi, CEO of Bayanat, encouraged young UAE nationals to pursue careers in geospatial services to help achieve the development goals of Abu Dhabi under its Vision 2030 plan. Bayanat’s officials shed light on its highly successful internal Emiratization programme that has helped the company secure a leading industry position and post one of the highest Emiratization rates in Abu Dhabi. Bayanat reported a few months ago that it has achieved a solid 75 per cent level of Emiratization.
“We want to motivate our youths, especially UAE nationals, to consider building careers in our field. Geospatial services play very important social and economic roles and would benefit from broader participation from our young and talented Emiratis. We are keen at Bayanat to support our national educational institutions in further exploring and understanding the applications and benefits of geospatial services and encourage more youths to take up careers in that field to expedite the development initiatives of Abu Dhabi and the entire UAE,” said Al Melhi.
The group attended a full day of presentations delivered by Bayanat’s Department Directors and Heads. Among the topics covered were Topographic and Hydrographic Surveying, Aerial Photography and Surveying, Map Production and Reading, and Geospatial Services.
