Geoscience Australia releases new index of Airborne Geophysical Surveys

Australia, 29 May 2007: Geoscience Australia on May 29 announced the release of new index of Airborne Geophysical Surveys compiled by P.J. Percival, Geoscience Australia.

The new edition is the latest compilation of metadata of Australian open file government airborne surveys and supersedes the previous 8th edition (May 2004). The Index includes specifications of approximately 1000 surveys conducted between 1951 and May 2007 which comprises of more than 27 million line kilometres of surveyed data containing mainly; total magnetic intensity, gamma-ray spectrometric and land elevation data. Specifications for each survey are presented in tabular format.

Also included are two maps of the June 2006 editions of the aeromagnetic and gamma-ray survey index maps which indicate the standard of data coverage (based on survey line spacing) over Australia in relation to 1:250,000 map sheets.
