GeoIQ CTO receives 2011 SmartCTO Award

US: Andrew Turner, CTO of GeoIQ, honoured with the SmartCTO Award for demonstrating outstanding leadership and support of GeoIQ’s vision. As a leader both within GeoIQ and the humanitarian community, Andrew is widely known as the “father of neogeography” and a visionary within the geospatial market, according to GeoIQ’s press statement.

After playing a key role in building both the GeoIQ location intelligence enterprise engine and the GeoCommons community site, Andrew used his capabilities to help drive GeoIQ’s rapid growth. For example, Andrew created the “GeoIQ Launch List,” a point-based system that encourages and rewards GeoIQ engineers to develop and then pitch to the company their ideas about how to enhance the GeoIQ engine. Additionally, for one week each summer Andrew and the GeoIQ engineering team retreat to the coast for a week of focused brainstorming and development away from the office.

While GeoIQ was initially developed for use by the US Intelligence community, Andrew led the transformation of GeoIQ to capitalise on the enterprise marketer’s need to make sense of the large amounts of data streaming from mobile devices and social media.
