Geographical institute of Venezuela conducts toponymic survey

Venezuela: The Geographical Institute of Venezuela in collaboration with Bolivarian Government of Guaicaipuro conducted a toponymic survey of the city Los Teques, Venezuela. GIS technologies and satellite data was used to identify streets, avenues and green areas with cultural and geographical names in the industry, community and municipality.

With construction of new buildings and risk maps, the survey aims to provide information to the population regarding the exact location of schools, hospitals and other service centre.

Gaston Murat from the national authority for place name standardization in Venezuela said that the survey will be conducted in three phases. The first phase of toponymic survey has already been carried out. The survey would help in recognising the names of all places. It will also help National Cadastre agency in land planning and land regularisation.
