Safe Software Inc., the firm in the creation, support, and development of advanced spatial data translation and transformation technologies, announced that the recently unveiled Canadian GeoBase Portal uses the Feature Manipulation Engine (FME) to distribute data in GML and Shape formats. FME is Safe Software’s flagship Spatial Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tool.

The GeoBase Portal, operated by Natural Resources Canada, is a federal, provincial and territorial government initiative that is overseen by the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG). It will ensure the provision of, and access to, a common, up-to-date and maintained base of quality geospatial data for all of Canada. Through the GeoBase portal, users with an interest in the field of geomatics have access to quality geospatial information at no cost and with unrestricted use.

FME is a Spatial ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tool that makes it easy for organizations to translate, transform, share and enhance their data between over 100 GIS, CAD, and database formats. FME consists of three main components: a translation engine, a transformation editor, and a viewer.
