GE Energy releases Small World field information system

GE Energy has announced the release of a new product, Smallworld Field Information System 4, the latest addition to the Smallworld 4 suite of software products. The product enables users to work in a detached mode while in a field environment. This new addition to the Smallworld 4 product family enables customers seeking this functionality to leverage the investment made in their existing Smallworld solution.

Mobile users can work in a detached mode in the field with a selection of the same attribute and map data used by their office-based colleagues. This allows field crews to be more responsive, with access to up to date, accurate information, enabling quicker and better-informed decisions. Data generated in the field is then reconciled with the master repository via a quality assurance workflow to ensure system data integrity.

The Smallworld Field Information System 4 application is a layered product on Smallworld Core Spatial Technology 4. The latest version of the core spatial software was recently commercialized.

The Smallworld Field Information System 4 application has several key benefits for the end user. The lightweight client is designed with the user in mind with minimal keyboard entry, a simple user interface, and the ability to be configured to suit individual field engineering roles. Field access to data will lead to fewer abandoned jobs, lower cost of service and repair work and better fulfillment of service level agreements and regulatory requirements.

Typical activities supported by the Smallworld Field Information System software include preliminary design work, service connections and leakage detections.
