Garmin announces a GPS Smartwatch and a Hands-free Navigation Device at this years CES

USA: Garmin made two major announcements at CES 2015 show at Las Vegas, USA – epix™:is the First-of-its-Kind Hands-free Navigation Device and vívoactive™ is a GPS Smartwatch for the Active Lifestyle.

Garmin epix is the first-of-its-kind, rugged GPS and GLONASSepix is the first-of-its-kind, rugged GPS and GLONASS supported enabled mapping watch for outdoor enthusiasts who are looking for a hands-free navigator. It comes with a 1.4” high-resolution color touchscreen, preloaded worldwide shaded relief basemap, a free 1-year subscription to BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, plus 8 GB of built-in memory for additional maps.

"For the first time, we’re able to pack the punch of an outdoor handheld GPS into a wearable device,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales.

vívoactive is a lightweight and ultra-thin GPS smartwatch with built-in sports and activity tracking apps. The device is targeted at people involved in activities such as running, cycling, golfing, swimming and activity tracking apps are enabled for all these activities.

According to Garmin, the device is Ultra-thin and lightweight, is comfortable for all day wear and features up to three weeks battery life in watch/activity tracking mode or up to Garmin vívoactive is a lightweight and ultra-thin GPS smartwatch wearable device10 hours using GPS.

The device provides built-in GPS-enabled sports apps and the running app displays pace, time and distance using GPS and vívoactive’s built-in accelerometer tracks speed and distance when GPS is unavailable.

For golfers, course maps from more than 38,000 courses worldwide are provided with vívoactive’s golf app. The GPS enables the players to monitor their play, and related activities.
