Texas-based Garland Power & Light (GP&L), a locally owned and controlled not-for-profit municipal utility, is currently in production with ArcFM. GP&L serves nearly 68,000 customers, making them the third largest municipal utility in Texas.
Garland Power & Light sought an integrated GIS to alleviate the burdens of working with disparate data and producing paper maps from multiple systems. They chose ArcFM to provide an efficient, cost-effective solution for streamlining facility and asset management.
GP&L selected Miner & Miner’s (M&M) standard Multispeak solution, which allowed them to implement core functionality inexpensively and prepare for easy integration with future applications including work management, outage management, distribution planning, and CIS.
The project began in September 2004 with data migration from shapefiles and an Access database to the geodatabase. M&M facilitated on-site training and completed a formal rollout of the application in just over three months. GP&L went into production in December 2004.
