Taipei, Taiwan: The Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation signed an agreement with Taiwan’s National Space Organization (NSPO). The foundation is known as an active participant in overseas disaster relief works. The agreement will allow it to use NSPO satellite images free of cost.
Tzu Chi officials said it is often difficult to get a clear understanding from ground level of the way an area has been hit by a natural disaster, which makes the overviews available from satellite imagery vital in coordinating and executing relief operations.
“In the event of a natural disaster, we will provide real-time images to Tzu Chi to help it carry out its relief work with maximum efficiency,” said NSPO Director Chang Guey-shin.
