Forest Technology Group received the 2001 Environmental & Energy Achievement Award for Forest Management from the American Forest & Paper Association. The award, one of the industry’s most prestigious for forestry, was presented Tuesday, May 21, in Washington, D.C.
The award recognizes Forest Technology Group’s WebFRIS(tm), a user-friendly decision support system that helps forest managers and landowners achieve their economic and environmental goals. The Web-based system enables more widespread and convenient access to maps, imagery and forest data important for sustainable resource management. For many, WebFRIS virtually eliminates the need for expensive, specialized hardware, software and training.
Forest Technology Group also provides custom PC-based geographic information systems. All are designed with easy-to-use interfaces specifically for forestry and natural resources management. The company also offers an array of consulting services that include forest inventory technology, forest management planning and decision support, and ecological services to complement its information systems.
The annual Environmental & Energy Achievement Awards underscore AF&PA’s commitment to environmental improvement and energy management. They recognize significant achievements by paper industry and forest products companies improving efficiency and forest management. The Forest Management category award, in which Forest Technology Group was honoured, applies to advancements in forest management and land use that make notable contributions to sustainable forestry and environmental quality.
