US: Ford has become the first automaker to test an autonomous vehicle at the University of Michigan’s MCity. MCity is a full-scale simulated environment designed to mimic real-world driving scenarios. We are talking street lights, curb cuts, bike lanes, trees, sidewalks, signs, traffic control devices, and even construction barriers. The carmaker’s Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Research Vehicle is equipped with front-facing cameras, radar, LiDAR sensors and real-time 3D mapping technology. The automaker is positive that compared to a real environment, simulating multiple events in the same run will speed up its research on autonomous car technology.
