“First Panama Mapathon” is successfully performed

The National Authority for Government Innovation (AIG) successfully held the “First Mapathon of Panama”, on which experts and general public were able to upgrade the country”s geographic data in Google Maps Panama digital platform.

Hector Marcelo Mercado, from Google Map Maker community, said the call was successful and the virtual map of Panama could be updated.

Mercado highlighted the participation of actors from different levels such as people skilled at cartography, others that works with geology and also mapmakers; in addition to students from different universities, previously invited.

On the other hand, Manuel Quintero, AIG’s SIG specialist, described the day as excellent and noted that people were able to register virtually, demonstrating the culture of a Paperless Panama.

Quintero said there is much to be done in this area and that similar mapathons will be in progress across the country, so all Panamanians are invited to visit https://www.innovacion.gob.pa/ and https://www.google.com/mapmaker to get to know the platform and all projects being updated on Google Maps Panama.

It should be noted that all Mapathon was broadcast live on: Google Plus, Google Hangout and also by Youtube.
