Philippines: The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is all set to hand over the Philippine Scientific Earth Observation Micro-satellite (Phil-Microsat) to Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on Wednesday. The “first Filipino-made” microsatellite is also known as Diwata. The real-time images will be used to assist the government in its response to natural calamities and the monitoring of the country’s agricultural, fisheries and forest resources.
Experts at JAXA will conduct final tests on the microsatellite’s space-worthiness. After that, the spacecraft would be sent to NASA for deployment on a SpaceX rocket. The final launch will take place sometime in April.
